I’ve not written in awhile… but this, this is important.

Earlier, Ms. Jenny the Bloggess who I love entirely in a semi-stalkerish way yet semi-totally-endearing-and-you-dont-need-to-pull-out-the-stabbystabby-if-i-show-up-in-your-bathroom-with-a-bottle-of-wine-to-hide-out-with-you…. wrote an entry, *here* that made me really disappointed in the world. One would think after so many struggles for human rights be it black rights, women rights, gay rights, etc. that you see we still struggle with that our school systems could at least attempt to be better influences on our students and help open up the minds of the next generations. Seriously, a fake prom for Constance and her girlfriend and 5 others while the rest of the students attended the “real” one? This is just unreal, and really a horrible message for any school to send to their students. It’s okay to mislead and avoid those who are different from us, apparently.

No, it’s really not okay. We are all one human race. We all struggle with things, we all have feelings. I truly hope, one day, we can all really look past differences and still see a person as just that, a person. A person with feelings, and opinions. A person that can be heart broken when someone they should be able to trust, like their teachers & school faculty trick them into attending a “fake” prom as to make sure they’re not seen within the schools “real” prom.

If our children can’t feel safe within their school and trust that the adults running the show… then where can they feel safe? We’re here to build these students into young adults who can function in the outside world. Well, guess what world? You are most likely related to someone who is “different”, and some of you may not know it but would you shun them when you did figure it out? Would you truly disown a person you’ve loved your whole life if you found out they… we not quite the person you thought they were? If you could, then shame on you.

It’s 2010, I hope when my child is in high school the world has developed higher tolerances for differences, and I truly hope he sees the world as I do. The color of your skin does not affect me, your religion does not affect me, and your sexuality certainly does not affect me… a family member, a friend, even an acquaintance… you are who you are, and you’re beautiful and perfect in your own way. Anyone who makes you feel bad about who you are, is not worth your time. No one should ever feel they have to hide who they are for approval from friends, family & even outsiders. You don’t need anyones approval but your own, but those who love you should support you no matter what.

Thank you, Jenny, for posting this. I love your satire and humor… but I also love your serious, sensitive side. You’re a true & amazing human being with a very large heart.
